The Normal Aging Process
Over time, the changes in our structure cause changes in our appearance which we call aging.
As our skin gets thinner, collagen production slows down, and our elastin and hyaluronic acid infrastructure are depleted. This leads to volume loss, sagging skin, and static wrinkles.
As collagen production decreases, the facial fat pads start to redistribute within the face. For example, the forehead and cheek fat pads will lessen resulting in volume loss and redistribute to around the mouth or jaw. This is why folds around the mouth and jowls become more prominent.
Over time the bones recess in the face which also leads to volume loss. This bone loss removes the structural support for the tissues on top of it resulting in less defined cheekbones, softened jawlines, hollow eyes, and sagging in the neck.
Importance of Dermal Fillers and Biostimulators
Dermal Fillers are important to restore volume to the areas of the face that have loss of bone and fat. This can create a natural restoration to the face for a revitalized look.
Biostimulators are facial injectables that targets fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of aging due to collagen loss, gradually helping restore skin structure and volume. These injectables take weeks to months to stimulate collagen, but last up to 2 years improving the skin quality.
Combining these two treatments is the secret to long lasting natural results.
Facial Balancing
If you are looking to get filler or biostimulators, it is important to understand facial balancing.
Facial balancing considers the proportions of the forehead, nose, lips, chin, jawline, and cheeks to provide facial harmonization for the client. This is recommended for achieving better facial symmetry, proportions, and balance between different features by using injectable dermal fillers, biostimulators, and neurotoxins. To achieve a natural result there is a need to balance all features of the face, not just one part.
Why Combination Skin Treatments Are Important
Aging is a result of several types of changes occurring in all five facial anatomical layers: skeleton, ligaments, muscles, adipose tissue, and skin. To target the structural effects of aging, combined intervention is required to relax, volumize, resurface, and rejuvenate facial skin. No single technology, filler, or neuromodulator can achieve all the results desired in treating the aging face (Fabi et al., 2017).
Treatment options include:
Neurotoxin (Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, or Dysport) to relax the muscles that induce wrinkles. Dermal Filler(Restylane, Radiesse, Versa) to replace the volume loss of bone and fat.
Radio Frequency Micro-needling (Morpheus8) to improve collagen loss and skin texture.
Lasers: Intense Pulsed Light, Hair removal, and Vasculaze for sunspots, vascular lesions, and pigmentation.
